Each participant presents the key issues they see in the research problem. The team then works through them one by one — why does each one matter? — so every discipline is heard.

Research problem exploration
Before you scope, explore. In this workshop the team and its partners open up the agrifood challenge from every discipline and stakeholder view, then make the assumptions behind the project explicit.
Facilitation guide

Before
Invite the core partners from Step 2 and share the concept note. Ask each partner to reflect on: "What are the key issues within this research problem that need to be addressed?"

During
Present the research problem, then go round the table: each partner shares their key issues and why each one matters, so everyone is heard. Write down every assumption as it comes up.

After
Place the assumptions on the assumptions matrix and tackle them in priority order. Carry them into your Theory of Change in Step 4.
